Jessica Dula - Know Your Own Strength

Jessica grew up—eh, was raised (she refuses to grow up!)—in Orange County, CA. She became vegan roughly two years ago and was vegetarian for a few years prior to that. She now cannot comprehend how she was ever not vegan. It feels so natural and right for her to abstain from hurting animals.
Jessica is 41 years of age and has had several different careers, but her preferred work to date is editing. She has edited books, websites, user guides, student papers, and beyond. By far, editing Know Your Own Strength is the most enjoyable and rewarding project she has finalized.
Jessica earned her BA in English from University of California, Irvine, and her AA in Paralegal from Santa Ana College. If you would like to contact her for an editing proposal, please write to her at jessicaedits1@gmail.com.

Amy Dumas - A Compassionate Approach to Health & Fitness

Amy Dumas has been kicking doors down and breaking molds for as long as she can remember. Best known for her tenure with World Wrestling Entertainment, "Lita" was one of the most popular super stars during the "Attitude" era.
Playing in bands and competing in judo in her youth, Amy caught a glimpse of a wrestling event and saw the wrestlers as a combination between athletes and rock stars setting a dream in motion. Lita was a mainstay on WWE programming for 7 years. Even suffering a broken neck while shooting the season finale of Dark Angel, Amy could not be held back. She began commentating for WWE's Sunday night HEAT while she was healing up and later returned to the ring. Several main events, magazine covers, TV cameos, and title runs later, "Lita" became Amy Dumas once again and went back to her other passion. Music.
Upon retiring from the WWE at the top of her career, she formed The Luchagors, a punk band most easily described as Joan Jett meets the Ramones. With her ever present DIY spirit in hand, she put out the self titled Luchagors album produced by friend and Skid Row bassist, Rachel Bolan on her own label. In support of this album they toured extensively through the US, Mexico, Europe, and the UK. Amy's book, A Less Traveled ROAD: The Reality of Amy Dumas, was a NY Times best seller. She has also appeared on the pages of Rebel Ink magazine showing off her tattoos.
Currently, Amy is host of her Sunday night radio show, Discordia, on sfmtv.com at 8pm EST. Her experience as a professional athlete and necessity of working through injuries lead her to become a certified RKC trainer, teaching people strength and mobility through Russian Kettlebells. When Amy is not working, she spends time in her home in Nicaragua with her dog, Kenz, where she surfs and relaxes, as well as involves herself in many community building and fund raising efforts. She is a vegetarian who is passionate about food as medicine. While no longer on the active WWE roster, Amy enjoys any and all things physical, and is still known to stop by and catch a live WWE event in person.

Dwayne "The Phytoathlete" Earnhardt - A Compassionate Approach to Health & Fitness

I am 45 yrs old and have competed in mountain biking and powerlifting in the past as an adult. I had a stent placement into a 90% blocked heart artery in 2003, with every other artery to my heart atleast 10% blocked with a couple 40-50% blockages. I have a B.S. in Nutrition from UNC Greensboro and became a Dr. Fuhrman "nutritarian" in 2007 and since that time have cleared my arteries of plaque and am in the best cardiovascular shape of my life. I believe, based on my personal experience and the research available, that phytonutrients are the key to good health. My current physical activities include cycling(my favorite), swimming, heavy bag, kettlebells and a little running as well. A plant based diet has changed my life and in all likelihood saved my life. For more information check out my website at www.the-phytoathlete.com.

Amanda Loewen - Know Your Own Strength

My name is Amanda Loewen, I reside in Portland, Oregon and have been vegan for about 11 years and will continue to do so out of love for animals. With the combination of my diet and the passion I've found in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and weight lifting I'm on my way to accomplishing a handful of my goals. I'm an avid competitor in the sport and teach full time as well as travel around doing seminars. I am undefeated in the Northwest, including winning two MMA fights.
Before I received my black belt last month I was ranked second in the world at brown belt female adult light weight (140 lbs) I'm looking forward to earning that black belt world title soon. It is my thought that the vegan lifestyle is superior to others chosen. If I can encourage others to live more compassionately and aware I will have succeeded.
Besides training 6 days a week, I enjoy hanging out with my three dogs and reading fantasy books.

After spending the next 3 years failing over and over again at becoming successful, he had ballooned up to 571lbs and had developed heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure. In January 2012, Mike decided that enough was enough and he wanted to live – he took immediate action and became inspired to follow a whole food plant-based diet, and start exercising. To this date, Mike has lost 142lbs and plans on losing another 129lbs to reach a goal of weighing 300lbs by January 2014. Mike’s transformation from drug addict to motivational speaker has inspired a documentary called “Wrestling Demons”, which will be released in summer of 2014.
Big Bald Mike hopes to use his success to help save animals, the environment, and people who suffer from drug, alcohol, and junk food addiction. By living an active lifestyle and competing in sports such as boxing and arm-wrestling, Mike will set a positive example by showing people that a whole food vegan lifestyle is optimal for performance and recovery, and especially extreme weight loss situations without diet pills or surgery.

Jason Morris - Know Your Own Strength

I currently own and operate Iron Ethos: Fitness Community in Portland OR, and am a member of the PlantBuilt Powerlifting team. My undergad dergree is in Public Health: Health Sciences. I'm also a NAFC Certified Trainer, and Kinetic Integrations student. I’ve been a personal trainer for the last 5 years and a gym rat for the last 18 years, and enjoy the opportunity to learn from my peers whenever I can.
At 31, I see fitness as a health behavior that can create positive change in your life, as well as create positive change in our community. We are social beings, we shape behavior in one another. It is rare in the years that I've spent personal training that people sign up for a gym on their own. If a positive experience takes place, more peers tend to follow. Its this experience I attempt to pass on no matter who comes through the door.

Tyler Welch - Know Your Own Strength

Tyler is a patchwork trainer of sorts, a fitness nomad that has traveled, taught, and learned throughout the US and Canada. A former chubby buddy (aka fat kid) Tyler discovered fitness through football and wrestling, and continued that pursuit throughout university, though he didn't find fitness as a career until 2005. Repeated injuries and gym-related boredom caused him to seek out a deeper understanding of movement and health.
A former Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, wrestling, and Pankration competitor, Tyler has an extensive background in Olympic weightlifting, bodyweight training, powerlifting, kettlebell training and yoga. He has been working in the training world for the better part of a decade and holds (or at some point has held) numerous certifications in a number of different fitness fields. Tyler has had the chance to work with some of the most sought-after trainers and coaches in Olympic weightlifting, bodyweight strength training, powerlifting, highland games, and strongman. He has written for several strength and fitness publications on a variety of subjects and worked on several short documentaries on the history of physical culture. Recently he has turned his sights towards the sport of highland games heavy athletics. It has been humbling, but exhilarating.
Tyler currently resides in Victoria, BC where he spends most of his time squatting or making bad jokes. You can find him online at ironcovenant.com, though his beautiful wife and daughter don’t give him enough free time to update as much as he probably should.
